Escape From Alcatraz : The Whole Story...

June 1962, three prisoners plan to escape the country’s most toughest, ruthless and brutal prison, Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. Do they make it? or did they fail like the government says it does?

The story begins in three cells in Alcatraz. Prisoner Frank Morris, a smart man with an IQ said to be 133 (133 on an IQ score means that the person is gifted or extremely advanced, go ahead, google it). Frank hatches a plan along with brothers John and Clarence Anglin to escape Alcatraz, a task never done before. I am not going to bore you with all the details so to sum it up, Frank, John and Clarence break open their cell vents, replace themselves with a head dummy made out of paper, escape from the boiler room, make a raft out of stolen raincoats, flee into the ocean and...

Well, that’s pretty much it. The next morning a guard comes into check up on one of them slapping over the head dummy. Realizing what had happened, the guard immediately informs the warden and sirens blare. They check the parameter and find a few belongings of the inmates that washed up on another island. No bodies were found although the FBI claimed that the escape was unsuccessful. And to this day, no one knows what happened that night. The Anglin family claims that they have received letters and roses from the brothers but those might never be confirmed.

A lot of theories have come up, I will be discussing the ones that I found interesting or fascinating regardless how ridiculous they might be. So let’s begin shall we?

1. They escaped and all fled to different countries, living long lives under different names. The most major evidence that suggests this could be the fact that the bodies were never found and also the letters and the roses with the initials of the brothers. Studies on the brothers also show that as kids, they loved swimming and were exceptionally good at it. Dutch researchers also simulated what the waters could have been like that night and the results were that they could have made it.

2. The second theory is plain and simple. They didn’t make it that night and the reason why their bodies weren't found could be because the bodies were swept into the Pacific Ocean.

Both these theories could be true but personally, I would like to believe that they all made it out alive. Everyone likes a good underdog story and this is a perfect example of that.

What do you think could have happened to them. Share your opinion in the comments below.
