Why Was Carry’s Video Deleted? : Part 2
With Carry’s new video out on Instagram, where he can be seen on the verge of tears requesting people to not present assumptions as facts referring to a few activists who have viewed the video as an attack on the LGBT community in India and other activists having responded.
Now please do note that I completely agree that these activists do have a right to respond and to express their opinions through social media.
But it is unfair to convey your opinion as a ‘fact’. You see because people react entirely different to an opinion and a fact. People believe in facts and when opinions are stated as facts, it can lead to disaster.
Like Carry said in his video, please do understand the entire context when making an assumption. I do understand that humor can be seen as insensitive to some people but do remind yourselves that humor is subjective and it is not used to make any political statements.
A few people have made the effort to try to “decipher” and find the true meanings behind Carry’s sentences in his video. So I am making the effort to try to justify these to the best of my possibilities.
Please view this as only my opinion and not anything more. So let’s begin shall we?
1. Sexist comment - When Carry talks about youtubers fighting and tiktokers fighting he mentions the word ‘pussy’. Which is slang for people who aren’t ‘man’ enough to show homophobic behavior.
My reply - I don’t think pussy is slang for people who aren’t ‘man’ enough. It’s a word of abuse to
describe cowards or cowardly behavior. These two definitions do sound similar but they still are
different in meaning. Now I know what some of you might be thinking, it’s still a word of abuse right?
Yes it is, but don’t deny the fact that countless other youtubers have mentioned much harsher words of abuse without facing such severe consequences or in fact any consequences at all.
2. Homophobic comment - Methai ki dukan pe lekr jaunga, 200 me bik jaye ga.
My reply - I see how this can come off as being a very insensitive comment but like Carry said, you cannot simply judge a statement without knowing the whole context. If we understand sentences by
their literal meaning, then a single sentence can have innumerable meanings. But we understand the
meaning by which one matches with context the most. When Carry made this statement he was
answering why tiktokers had so much ‘unity’ as Amir Siddiqui had said in his video and also saying
that brands approach them more than youtubers, Carry was simply explaining that the so called ‘unity’ tiktokers display is because brands approach them as a whole. A single content creator isn’t approached on TikTok unlike Youtube and that’s when Carry passed this comment. So you see context is very important when it comes to judging a person’s words.
Although in my opinion, I don’t blame these activists in any way because they might have been influenced by other platforms ( ahem ahem TikTok ) to speak up on the matter. And even after you consider the statements might have meanings people might have found offensive, straight up taking it
down is not fair. Under The Cyberbullying and Harassment Policy of Youtube, the specific area of
the
video which people might have found offensive can be trimmed by the creator behind the video, this
option is given to most creators but wasn’t for Carry though.
And additionally, it really cannot be considered as cyberbullying or harassment because Amir asked
for a roasting, tagging all the roasters of Youtube and even making a video claiming that he would be happy if Carry made a video on him.
Guys, honestly the way I see it, Carry should at the very least be given the option to trim the “offensive” parts of the video but directly deleting the video is not right. But then again, please do not spread unnecessary hate and comments. Share this blog as much as you can so Carry knows that their are people and fans who are backing him up on this.
